* Extensive experience in interpreting financial data pertaining to pension fund investments;

* Experience in judging the expertise of money managers;

* Experience in weighing the risks and liabilities of types of investments, nationally and internationally;

  Experience in analyzing the reports of actuaries;

  Thorough knowledge of the Pension Plan Bylaw, the Provincial Pension and Benefits Act and Regulations and the Canada Revenue Act as it relates to pension plans;

* Preference will be given to extensive financial experience in business, accounting, commerce and investment practices;

* Possess a knowledge of relevant pension issues;

* Ability to draw upon relevant knowledge and experience when applying judgement and when making decisions that are relevant to the Plan;

* Willingness and ability to carry out the duties of a Trustee and fulfill the associated fiduciary obligations;

* Possess an understanding of the needs of the Plan’s membership;

* Ability to serve as a Trustee in an independent and objective fashion; and

* Ability to recognize gaps in knowledge, skills or resources and ensure that such gaps are filled either through additional training/education or through the appointment of external advisors.
